HBM / CBGM
Reduce road construction depth by 50% and costs by 40% with Roadways HBM.
Roadways HBM is a hydraulically bound material made with 100% recycled aggregates. This cement-bound recycled aggregate material has been successfully applied across road, track and path projects.
See HBM in action:
- As an alternative to a constantly failing Type 1 lane for Lewes District Council: Peacehaven road resurfacing case study.
- As a winter maintenance solution for failing paths at Horam Park Golf Club: Horam Park Golf Club case study.
- As a sustainable, lower-risk, longer-lasting and cost-effective road sub-base for East Sussex County Council, allowing the road reconstruction depth to be reduced by half while achieving the same results: Croft Road, Crowborough case study.
- As part of a Green Apple Award-winning road scheme in Southampton, where roads were reconstructed three times deeper for the same budget: Southampton Road Recycling Programme and International Green Apple Environmental Award.
- To reduce the construction depth of the A27 Arundel S278 works by half: A27 Arundel S278 HBM case study.
Best used for:
- Private roads and shared residential driveways
- Farm tracks, agricultural access roads and rural estate paths
- Commercial yards and industrial storage areas
- Hardstandings and temporary construction site access
- Car parks and structural aggregate sub-bases
Product specifications and benefits:
- Composition: carefully graded 0–20mm recycled aggregates blended uniformly with approximately 2% cement and 3% GGBS, depending on the specification, road usage and other requirements.
- Performance: structural binding locks the material securely in place, delivering a longer-lasting foundation with far less shifting than loose stone.
Technical specifications and compliance:
- Compliance: produced to relevant British Standards and highways specifications, including BS 9228 and the operative Specification for Highway Works, with legacy Clause 948 references or equivalent provisions in the 2025 MCHW.
- Departures: no departures from standard are required.
