ASPHALT PAVER SCREWMAN / SCREED OPERATOR

The asphalt screwman’s primary function is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade and finish. The screwman is also responsible for ensuring the consistency of the asphalt and the overall ride quality of the finished road.

Key responsibilities: 

• Ensure a smooth operation for the laying process
• Ensure levels and joints are to specifications 
• Set levels of the materials ready for compaction
• Oversee the members of his/her team and stay on top of any problems before they happen
• Establish a pleasant and safe working environment 
• Safely operate plant
• Achieve daily production targets as instructed, including completion of work and cleaning on site
• Undertake preparation works, manual labour, digging, lifting and carrying (when required)
• Other duties, like general housekeeping of vehicles and plant 

Requirements:

• An experienced screwman with a minimum of 2 years’ experience 
• Valid CSCS/CPCS or NPORS card
• Street Works qualification (desirable)
• Valid driving licence
• Clear of alcohol and drugs when reporting for work (a regular testing programme is in place)
