Civils Operative

CIVILS OPERATIVE

Operatives report directly to their foreman. You must work safely in a busy environment and adhere to the requirements of the site at all times. Working safely in a busy environment is expected and the site’s requirements will have to be acknowledged and adhered to at all times. You may be asked to carry out any of the following.

Key responsibilities:

  • Safely operate while moving around the site
  • Set levels of materials ready for compaction
  • Undertake manual labour, digging, lifting, carrying and cleaning on site
  • Lay kerbs, concrete and timber edgings
  • Lay block paving
  • Undertake small bricklaying works and ironwork adjustments
  • Lay concrete
  • Undertake deep or shallow drainage works
  • Excavation and backfill 
  • Prepare sites for asphalt surfacing

Requirements:

  • Civils operative with a minimum of 2 years’ experience 
  • Valid CSCS
  • Street Works qualification (desirable)
  • Valid CPCS or NPORS card for either a roller, dumper or excavator (desirable)
  • Valid driving licence
  • Clear of alcohol and drugs when reporting for work (a regular testing programme is in place)
